In order to help all special education stakeholders implement the new Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004 effectively and efficiently, the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) has prepared a side-by-side document to compare federal regulations for IDEA of 1997 with the recently released federal regulations for IDEA 2004.

Users may download the entire document from the Michigan Department of Education Web site at www.michigan.gov/documents/IDEASidebySideComparison_132548_7.pdf. To purchase this document from NASDSE for a cost of $15, call (703) 519-3800 or visit www.nasdse.org/documents/SbSorderform.pdf todownload an order form. To download a copy of the final IDEA regulations, visit www.michigan.gov/documents/2004IDEARegulations_169000_7.pdf.

U.S. Department of Education Creates IDEA “One-Stop Shop”

Created by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), this IDEA Web site provides a "one-stop shop" for resources related to IDEA and its implementing regulations released on August 3, 2006. The “living" Web site will change and grow as resources and information become available. Once fully implemented, the site will provide searchable versions of IDEA and the regulations, access to cross-referenced content from other laws such as the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), video clips, topic briefs on selected regulations, links to OSEP's Technical Assistance and Dissemination (TA&D) Network, a Q&A corner for question submissions, and a variety of other information sources.

For more information, visit http://idea.ed.gov/explore/home.
