Collaborative Program Helps ASSIST Beginning Teachers
Advocating Strong Standards-based Induction Support for Teachers, better known as ASSIST, is a comprehensive induction and mentoring program to support teachers, the teachers who mentor them, and their school administrators. It is intended to provide meaningful professional development for new teachers during their induction years, as well as tools and resources for both new and experienced teachers to use as they work together in mentoring/learning relationships and for administrators responsible for implementing induction programs.
The ASSIST Web site, located at http://assist.educ.msu.edu/ASSIST, includes sections on Organizing Induction, Improving Practice, and Continuing to Learn. It also provides divided sections for beginning teachers, mentoring teachers, and principals, making it easy for visitors to find relevant information.
The project is supported by a grant to Michigan State University from the Michigan Board of Education through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
