The United States Department of Education (ED) recently released guidance aimed at helping state education agencies, local school districts, and schools administer the parental involvement provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

These provisions include:

  • Expanded public school choice and supplemental educational services for eligible children in low performing schools.
  • Local development of parental involvement plans that address local needs.
  • Building parents’ capacity for using effective teaching methods.

In addition, this resource provides sample templates for developing district-wide parental involvement policies or school-parent compacts.

The department is providing the guidance to help state-level administrators and local educators ensure that parents—as their child’s first teacher—have the information they need to help improve their child’s academic achievement.
